Exercising After Your Mommy Makeover
Mommy makeovers are a group of procedures aimed at helping moms regain their pre-baby body after pregnancy, childbirth and breast feeding. The mix of procedures in everyone’s mommy makeover will be different according to what each person’s unique body will need.
After a mommy makeover it is important to give your body the time and energy it needs to heal before you try to engage in intense physical activity. How soon you can exercise after surgery depends on the extent of the procedures performed in your mommy makeover. Here’s an overview of exercise restrictions with the most commonly included procedures:
Breast Lift/Augmentation: Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause the breasts to sag, and a breast lift can reposition the breasts while eliminating excess skin. Breast augmentation effectively increases breast size to restore volume lost after pregnancy and nursing. You should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity with your upper body for 4-6 weeks.
Tummy Tuck: A tummy tuck corrects loose abdominal muscles, sagging skin and excess fat in the stomach area. This procedure has a lengthier recovery time and may take as long as three weeks before light exercise can be resumed. Patients should wait 6 – 8 weeks before resuming abdominal exercises.
Liposuction: Stubborn fat deposits can be eliminated with liposuction. Liposuction recovery is shorter than for a tummy tuck, but it will still take a few weeks before vigorous exercise will be possible. Lipo can be done on many areas of the body so this partly depends on which areas are being treated. Generally speaking, strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 4 weeks.
Ease into Exercise
Exercise after a mommy makeover will be important to maintain your results. As you begin exercising after a mommy makeover, start at a lower intensity and gradually increase as your body heals. If you do too much too soon, you could significantly damage your body causing pain, bruising, healing complications and bleeding. By easing into each new step, you can more confidently and comfortably embrace your new figure and maintain healthy results from your mommy makeover.
